Audiard, Haneke... elle court la rumeur

Qui sortira vainqueur de l'édition 62 ? Verdict ce dimanche soir. Sept prix (étant entendu que le jury peut décider d'en ajouter un huitième) seront remis dont la très convoitée Palme d'or. Deux noms circulent pour le trophée suprême, Mickael Haneke et Jacques Audiard. Deux univers, deux styles mais de toute évidence, les deux films qui ont le plus impressionné la Croisette. Avec Le Ruban Blanc, l'Autrichien - l'un des cinéastes préférés de la présidente du jury, Isabelle Huppert -, nous a proposé un film à glacer les sangs sur la genèse de la barbarie en général, du nazisme en particulier. Porté par un somptueux noir et blanc, Le Ruban Blanc évoque l'éducation rigoureuse voire sadique des jeunes Allemands à l'orée de la Première guerre mondiale. La violence est invisible et pourtant, elle sourd de toutes les images, créant un vrai malaise.
Education toujours mais derrière les barreaux : Jacques Audiard, fidèle à son penchant pour les films du genre, revisite le genre taulard, à travers le personnage de Malik incarcéré pour six ans. Arrivé comme un anonyme, celui qui donne son titre au film Un Prophète, ressortira dans la peau d'un nabab ou, milieu oblige, d'un parrain. Entre temps, il aura appris à lire et à écrire, manipulé tous ceux qui pensaient l'avoir à sa botte, tout ça dans l'espace clos et insupportable d'une prison. Film sous tension, Un Prophète est porté qui plus est par un débutant au cinéma Tahar Rahim absolument époustouflant et qui, si la Palme devait échapper à Audiard, mériterait de remporter le prix d'interprétation masculine.
Pour les prix « annexes » - encore que le passé a prouvé qu'en matière de pronostics, le jury est rarement là où on pourrait l'attendre -, les noms de Lou Ye (Nuits d'ivresse printanière), d'Elia Suleiman (The Time That Remains), de Lars von Trier (Antichrist) et de Ken Loach (Looking for Eric, Palme du cœur quoi qu'il arrive) reviennent avec insistance pour le Grand prix et le Prix du jury. De même que les noms de Pedro Almodovar et de Xavier Giannoli, autre Français à avoir fait forte impression, sont cités pour un éventuel prix du scénario.
Outre Tahar Rahim, les postulants au prix d'interprétation masculine ne manquent pas. En lice, Christoph Waltz, épatant colonel nazi dans Inglourious Basterds de Quentin Tarantino et bien sûr Steve Evets, en fan de football au bout du rouleau dans Looking for Eric de Ken Loach. Chez les dames, trois actrices méritent d'être distinguées : la débutante Katie Jarvis dans Fish Tank d'Andrea Arnold, Abbie Cornish dans Bright Star de Jane Campion et Giovanna Mezzogiorno dans Vincere de Marco Bellocchio.
Dans quel ordre, à quelle place, selon quelle hiérarchie ? Le dernier mot reviendra aux huit jurés et à leur présidente. Quoi qu'il en soit, ce sont là les films qui ont survolé une 62ème édition par ailleurs assez inégale mais qui aura eu le mérite d'aborder tous les genres y compris celui de la comédie et de la fantaisie avec Les Herbes Folles (qui porte bien son titre) d'Alain Resnais que l'on aimerait voir récompensé, d'une manière ou d'une autre. Aussi parce qu'il fut l'un des rares cinéastes à ne pas avoir fait un film de 2h30 voire plus. Une constante - la longueur des films - qui a souvent rendu les projections pénibles. L'on sait déjà que certains des films présentés à Cannes seront d'ailleurs remontés avant leur sortie en salle, au nombre desquels celui de Quentin Tarantino qui s'est déclaré insatisfait lors de la projection officielle. Et ce n'est pas nous qui le contredirons !
